Presbyterian Church offers special
“Service of Lessons and Carols”

Worship at the Oakland-Cambridge Presbyterian Church at the top of Main Street in Cambridge will take on a different air and tone this Sunday as the congregation observes a special Advent Service of Lessons and Carols.

Members and friends of the congregation will read from the scriptures the stories of the coming of the Messiah and a poem about the importance of preparing for that coming instead of getting swept away by the secular and materialistic demands of the season.  The readings will be interspersed with hymns, carols, and anthems.

The Service of Lessons and Carols will be held during the normal worship hour at 10 a.m. on Sunday, December 4.  Church school for children and adults is held at 9.  The children are currently preparing for the children’s Christmas program and newcomers are invited to get on board so they can be part of the presentation on December 18.  “If you’ve been thinking about giving your children the opportunity to learn about Jesus, this is a great time to bring them to Sunday School,” said Pastor Gretchen Lord Anderson

The Oakland-Cambridge Presbyterian Church is located at 313 E. Main.  It is a redeveloping congregation which, in the past year, has begun to realize new life in Christ.  It welcomes all people of all ages.

Presbyterian Church set to discuss
“Purpose Driven Life;” guests welcome!

Have you heard about the book “The Purpose Driven Life” and thought you might like an opportunity to read and discuss it with others?

Written by Rick Warren, the book has been on the bestseller lists for several years now and has been given credit for helping turn around individual lives and the lives of entire congregations.

The congregation at Oakland-Cambridge Presbyterian Church wants to see what it’s all about.  They’re inviting anyone who’s interested to join them in the process.

Beginning Sunday, March 6, at 10:45 a.m., the first discussion will take off led by Pastor Gretchen Lord Anderson.  Each week the discussion will cover four chapters (or “days”) of the book.  Each discussion will last one hour.  The congregation will take a break from its study on March 27 and April 3.

“The great thing about this book, first, is its basis in scripture.  And the second great thing about it is its significance for people regardless of where they are in their walk with God.  They can be brand new to the faith, long-time believers, or folks who are just interested in exploring what it might mean to have God, Christ and the Holy Spirit giving purpose to their lives,” Rev. Anderson said.

There are always refreshments available for the Sunday fellowship hour when the discussion will be held.  The 10:45 a.m. scheduled time immediately follows the 9:30 worship service.

“We would love to have folks just walk in right off the street and join us.  None of us has all the answers.  But all of us can help ask the questions.”

Oakland-Cambridge Presbyterian Church is located at 313 E. Main in Cambridge.
